Ann's Pepperdine Adventure: 2010

Welcome to my blog and please enjoy traveling with me vicariously to a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership. The program has a global flare and addresses those elements that make organizations stronger and teams more dynamic. It folds in travel, diversity, colleagiality, and trust.

My journey to the Pepperdine campus began almost a year ago with the search for the perfect learning institution to help me achieve my goal of a terminal degree. My criteria was rather specific: a school with a stellar faculty and an outstanding reputation; a program focused on making organizations shine; and a programatic architecture that combined some on-line learning and mostly on-site lectures (establishing a network of colleagues is essential to me).

After the search led me to Pepperdine University, the "to do" list leading to acceptance presented itself - and a long action item list it was! There were forms, tests, essays, and recommendations. There were weeks of test prep, and essay edits. And most importantly there were the ever so critical Letters of Recommendation. Elaine, Casey, and Dave have my everlasting gratitude for taking the time to author the key documents for entry to the program!

Kickoff!!!

Wednesday afternoon August 18, 2010 finally arrived and I packed the car for the the next four days that would color my academic experience for the next few years. As I drove the the West LA Graduate Campus of Pepperdine University, I had strong misgivings that went to things like confidence, tenacity, and just plain fear. I wanted so much for the excitement to set in, but no such luck; I was way too nervous to feel charged up and happy. I arrived LA at about 7pm, got settled into my hotel and walked up to campus. Campus sits in the area of the Howard Hughes Center and offers everything from Starbucks to the Nordstrom Rack. One only need cross the street to enjoy in retail therapy!
